Classical Guitar: A New Path to Artistry

Under the leadership of Thomas Mann and Susana Diaz-Lopez, the Akins Guitar Program offers a diverse musical path for students beyond traditional band or orchestra. Established in partnership with Austin Classical Guitar, the program provides a rigorous foundation in classical technique that enhances cognitive skills and discipline across all genres, from rock to corridos tumbados. Students progress through four levels of study: Ms. Diaz-Lopez guides the Beginning and Intermediate levels, focusing on fundamental mechanics, while Mr. Mann directs the Advanced Non-Varsity and Varsity ensembles. Our Varsity musicians represent the pinnacle of the program, competing in UIL events and regional showcases throughout the year.
